Telkom Closer was released as an incentive to capture customers before the entrance of the new operator, Neotel. The Telkom closer packages offer substantial savings over a regular Telkom line and are clearly meant to compete with Neotel's NeoConnect and NeoFlex Voice.

Telkom Closer 1

This package can offer great savings for people who tend to call friends and family mainly on weekends. It includes around R25 of regular calls, while weekend calls are free. A regular 1 hour weekend call would cost R11.40, which means that just 13 regular 1 hour calls costs the same as the entire Closer 1 subscription.

Telkom Closer 2

This offers even more value as the free calls are extended from weekends only to weekdays between 7PM and 7AM as well. As above, a normal 1 hour call is R11.40, so 15 regular 1 hour Callmore calls would cost the same as the entire Closer 2 subscription.

Telkom Closer 3, 4 and 5

These offer huge savings as over and above the free Callmore calls, they each have 1,300 inclusive Standard time minutes included -- this alone would cost R559 on a normal Telkom line. The Telkom ADSL subscription is also included in the rental, and the bundles work out noticeably cheaper than it would if one were to separate the services.
