Mobile broadband is taking off all around the world, with worldwide mobile broadband subscriptions estimated to reach 600 million by the end of 2009, and South Africa is no exception. It is estimated there are almost 1 million active mobile broadband connections in South Africa, far surpassing Telkom ADSL, and even dial up internet and ISDN.
Even though some of us may not think so, South Africa actually has some of the lowest mobile data rates in the world compared even to countries like the UK and the USA. Sales of 3g cards and 3g phones are skyrocketing, prompting cellphone companies to constantly upgrade their network bandwidth to accommodate the extra users.
