Chinese device manufacturer Huawei declared Monday that it would begin an offensive into the high-end market for mobile phones, unveiling at the Consumer Electronics Show what it is calling the world's slimmest smartphone.
The company's Ascend P1 S is 6.68 millimeters thick, with a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor and a 4.3-inch AMOLED screen. Fully functional demonstration models on display at CES were noticeably thinner in the hand than existing phones and responded sharply to scrolls and touch commands.

Hollywood is calling on the US courts to force Hotfile, the popular file-sharing site, offline following similar action against Megaupload.
Court papers unsealed this week reveal that the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has filed a motion for a summary judgement.
If approved, the move could lead to action against the service without the need for a lengthy trial.
Hotfile says it removes copyright-infringing files on request.

The current maximum bit rate for channels operating in backbone networks is 100Gbps. T-Labs working with Alcatel-Lucent said on Friday that the usable bit rate of the new technology would be 400Gbps per channel.

MOBILE phones will outnumber humans by the end of 2012, according to a report by US technology company Cisco.
The report - which examines the growth of mobile internet, video, data and smartphones - predicted that there would be more than 10 billion mobile connected devices by 2016 - more than the estimated global population of 7.3 billion.

Network hardware vendor Trendnet admitted yesterday that a firmware flaw could turn almost two dozen models of safety cameras into spy cameras for anybody to view.
