Apple and AT&T's decision to subsidize the price of the iPhone 3G is paying off with an increase in sales to lower-income folks.
Comscore released data earlier this week indicating that while most iPhone users are in the $100,000-a-year income bracket, those earning between $25,000 a year and $75,000 a year are the fastest-growing segment of new iPhone customers. iPhone adoption among those making $25,000 to $50,000 a year has grown 48 percent since June, according to the report.

Seagate's new Barracuda 7200.11 SATA 1.5 terabyte drive (model ST31500341AS) ($225) packs a lot of performance into its 8-head 4-disc drive, proving that you can have size and speed in a single internal hard drive.
Windows says that the 3.5-in. drive has 1.36TB of capacity, and Seagate says the random-read seek time is less than 8.5 milliseconds and random-write seek time is less than 10 milliseconds. Our battery of tests showed good performance despite the large capacity.

Benjamin G. Edelman, a professor at Harvard Business School, estimates Google makes between $32 million and $50 million in gross profit each year -- potentially much more -- from placing its AdSense text ads on so-called typosquatting sites.
The scam has been around for years. Companies will buy domains like "ccartoonnetwork.com" or "bankkofamerica.com" hoping that users will misspell domain names when entering them in the browser window. Then, when users land on those pages, they click the Google AdSen... |

The huge growth in internet telephone traffic is jeopardising the capability of police to investigate almost every type of crime, senior sources have told The Times.
As more and more phone calls are routed over the web – using software such as Skype – police are losing the ability to track who has called whom, from where and for how long.
The key difficulty facing police is that, unlike mobile phone companies, which retain call data for billing purposes, internet call companies have no reason to keep ... |

Now Skype has released its second beta, it looks as if they have listened to some of the complaints. If you don't like the new look, you can now switch to Skype's classic view. It is possible to move between the expanded default view that... |

Research in Motion has finally announced details about its long-rumored iPhone competitor, an almost-all-touch-interface 3G handset with a twist: The screen itself is a big hardware button.

As with the iPhone, you can scroll and select by dragging and tapping with your fingertip. But to initiate action, instead of double-tapping, you confirm a ... |

Aesthetically, Sony Ericsson seems to have struck a nice balance between looks and size. Aside from the camera lens cover rocking slightly from side to side, build quality feels excellent and the materials used are of a high quality. The spring-op... |
