Facebook users are being urged to be wary of third-party apps after it was revealed hackers have launched another hoax program designed to steal social networker's login details.
Sophos says that the 'F a c e b o o k - closing down!!!' app sends bogus emails to users' contacts, claiming they've been reported "for violating our Terms of Service". The message continues: "This is your official warning! - Click here to find out why you were reported!".

NTT DoCoMo Inc, Japan's biggest mobile phone operator, said on Friday it has halted sales of Research In Motion's BlackBerry Bold because the phone can overheat while the battery is being recharged.
DoCoMo said it has sold about 4,000 high-end Bold phones, and about 30 users have complained the phone's keyboard area had heated up. The company said it has received no reports of users getting burned or of phones catching on fire.

I was deeply in techno-lust when I opened a UPS box the other day and pulled from it Samsung's new 256GB, SATA II laptop solid-state disk (SSD) drive -- stainless steel all around and oh so sleek. It sat in front of me and veritably screamed, "a quarter of a terabyte on flash memory." I didn't care that I didn't need that much storage capacity on my laptop. I wanted it anyway.

Advanced Micro Devices is preparing to ship a new six-core processor, currently codenamed “Istanbul,” by the second half of 2009, as the chip maker look to capture a higher share of the two- and four-socket server market.
While AMD announced only a few specifics of Istanbul, the company issued a brief statement Feb. 25 that said it had finished some early demonstrations of the six-core processor and that it would begin to ship in the second half of 2009.

Dell's profit sank drastically during the final quarter of 2008.
The PC maker reported fourth-quarter revenue of US$13.4 billion Thursday, a 16 percent drop from US$15.9 billion reported the same quarter a year ago. Dell's profit for the quarter totaled US$351 million, or 18 cents per share, compared to US$671 million and 31 cents per share the year before. That's nearly a 48 percent drop in profit. Analysts had been anticipating earnings per share of 26 cents.

Google Inc. today said it has asked the European Union's Competition Commission to let it participate in the antitrust agency's investigation of rival Microsoft Corp., joining browser builders Opera and Mozilla in the case.

LG's innovative 3G Watch Phone may cost as much as £1,000 when it hits the UK, according to a report from Mobile Today.
The LG's GD910 was first unveiled in concept form a year ago, but is said to be nearing release after it was demonstrated at last month's Consumer Electronics Show. Leading mobile phone manufacturers announced today they had agreed to produce a standardized charger for the industry in a move set to save money for consumers and reduce waste.
The agreement between 17 mobile phone operators and major handset makers will standardize chargers by 2012 for most cell phones shipped.

A judge has been asked to settle a squabble between the world's largest chip maker Intel and graphics computing speciality firm NVIDIA.
The northern Californian companies have been arguing for a year about whether a deal they inked in 2004 allows NVIDIA to produce chip sets that work with Intel microprocessors that have integrated-memory controller features.

Viruses and spam attacks targeting mobile phone users are on the increase, says McAfee.
According to the security firm's annual mobile phone report, over half of all handset manufacturers have reported instances of malware and spam attacks on mobile phones. In 2008, 17 percent of the world's handset manufacturers reported a total of over one million attacks.

LG has launched a new multimedia device called LG Arena.
LG says Arena will be its flagship device for 2009 and claims it has a ‘groundbreaking 3D user interface which is designed to be a more fun and engaging gateway to delivering an amazing multimedia experience.’

Yesterday at a small press event here in Barcelona, ZTE and its carrier partner Digicell announced the launch of the new Digicell Coral-200-Solar handset, a low-cost cell phone for Digicell's emerging markets that is able to recharge itself thanks the large photo-voltaic cell that sits on its back cover.
