Intel has revealed a prototype silicon chip that crams 48 processing cores - a total of 1.3 billion transistors - onto a piece of silicon around the size of a postage stamp. In theory each core could run a separate operating system.
Intel said it had already demonstrated Linux running on each core, and the company suggested that it could in time cram 100 separate cores onto a single piece of silicon.

Microsoft and Yahoo on 4 December said they have finalised a deal that would enable Microsoft Bing to power Yahoo search.
"Microsoft and Yahoo believe that this deal will create a sustainable and more compelling alternative in search that can provide consumers, advertisers and publishers [with] real choice, better value and more innovation," the companies said in a brief statement.

Google has named the winners of its second contest aimed at encouraging software developers to make applications for the Google Android mobile operating system.
The Android Developer Challenge 2 (ADC2) was announced in May and attracted entries by offering winners cash awards. The overall winner of ADC2, SweetDreams, an app that helps users sleep at night by sending late calls straight to voicemail, earned its creators $250,000.

Milan prosecutors Wednesday sought prison sentences ranging from six months to one year for four Google executives accused of violating Italy's privacy laws over the posting of a video showing the bullying of a handicapped teenage boy.

Social networking site Twitter has expressed an interest in more acquisitions as it grows in popularity.

A limited number of Freesat viewers will be included in the BBC iPlayer trial at the end of November.
A BBC spokesperson said that a full service on Freesat would likely be launched in 2010, and that all Freesat HD boxes will be able to receive it.

Yahoo purchased the 170,000 square metre plot 3 years ago, and it aims to house twice the number of employees currently housed in the company's existing HQ in Sunnyvale.

On Wednesday Google will make it easier for searchers to find music online by integrating music preview and purchase links into its search results.
