Microsoft is investigating another flaw in its popular Internet Explorer browser. The new vulnerability affects users running its browser on older operating systems, which could result in an unauthorised disclosure of information.
In a security advisory the software giant said that even though there are currently no attacks based on the flaw it could be used for a Web-based attack.
This latest flaw could affect users running Windows XP and Internet Explorer on Windows XP. Those running the browser on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 machine aren't vulnerable as the browser runs in a "protected mode" by default.
Microsoft stated it may take additional action after its inquiry has been completed, such as releasing an update as part of its monthly "Patch Tuesday" or as part of a special, out-of-band update.
In the meanwhile the company has offered an automated "Fix It" that can turn on the protected mode for those running IE 6.
