Massive crime syndicate has infiltrated Vodacom

The Rapport newspaper has reported that the Hawks may ask the FBI to help to investigate a “massive crime syndicate” which has infiltrated Vodacom and is performing SIM swap and Internet banking fraud. The report said a document shows that the crime syndicate recruited Vodacom call centre agents to help with illegal SIM swaps. Vodacom confirmed that an investigation is in progress into an alleged sim swap syndicate.... Read more


'Intrusive' MTN mast must go

DDoS attack killing internet in Liberia

A new large DDoS attack is knocking out internet access in Liberia. The attack, written about on Thursday by IT security researcher Kevin Beaumont, is the same type of attack that slowed much of the internet down in October. Both attacks used readily available Mirai malware. The malware allows users to hack into poorly-secured internet of things devices (such as smart cameras or refrigerators). PIC puts R6bn Vodacom stake up for sale

A stake in Vodacom is back up for sale following the collapse of a previous deal in May that was aimed at increasing black ownership of the mobile operator. The Vodacom shares being sold by the Public Investment Corp are valued at about R6bn, according to people familiar with the negotiations, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private. British Airways to offer wi-fi on short-haul flights

British Airways will offer wi-fi internet access on its short-haul flights from 2017, its owner IAG has announced. AG-owned Aer Lingus, Iberia and Vueling will also provide wi-fi. Many rival airlines already offer internet access during flights, with some providing it free of charge.
