Johannesburg - Telkom target Business Connexion says it continues to focus on executing its long-term strategy and is not sitting around waiting to see if the acquisition goes ahead.

The amendments were approved by the communications portfolio committee this week, and will now be tabled in Parliament for consideration.
A previously amended Icasa Bill was sent back to Parliament by President Thabo Mbeki for t... |

PARLIAMENT – Enhancing South Africa’s broadband infrastructure was a priority for higher economic growth and socio-economic development, Communications Minister Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri said on Thursday.
This would require “direct and deliberate government intervention”, she told MPs in the National Assembly during her department’s budget vote.
“Consistent with Cabinet’s declaration that ours is a developmental state, we have decided to examine the contribution that the assets of s... |

JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) - South Africa has unveiled plans to further dismantle state-owned Telkom's fixed-line monopoly and is building a wireless broadband network to boost Internet access in Africa's biggest economy.
The Ministry of Communications will allow all operators access to the "last mile" network of phone lines into homes and offices and will use state-owned signal carrier Sentech to build a wireless broadband network that will offer voice services.

South Africa is to focus on less costly wireless networks as it moves to roll out a broadband infrastructure across the country that is "robust enough" to cater for all socio-economic, business and research needs.
And state-owned company Sentech, Africa's largest broadcast signal distributor, is to "form the core" of South Africa's wireless broadband rollout, Minister of Communications Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri said in the National Assembly on Thursday.

[Johannesburg, 26 May 2006] - Broadband users had the opportunity to be heard during public hearings into ADSL pricing this week, held by the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA), and most took the opportunity to point fingers at Telkom.
Rudolph Muller, founder of MyADSL, an online forum with over 10 000 members, asked Telkom to deliver to users the services it advertises.
Using a Telkom advertisement, Muller showed Telkom has offered broadband users large downloads for everything from m... |

Managed liberalisation of the telecommunications sector seems to mean more government intervention rather than less, Ivy Matsepe-Casaburri's budget speech yesterday clearly states.

Supported by her deputy minister Roy Padayachie a... |
