[Johannesburg, 27 June 2006] - Telkom's proposed acquisition of Business Connexion (BCX) has the potential to benefit small business and individuals in disadvantaged areas, says the SMME Forum.
The organisation is a not-for-profit body representing about 3 500 small, medium and micro enterprises, mainly in townships, peri-urban and rural areas.

[Johannesburg, 27 June 2006] - Broadband industry players' unhappiness with the allocation of certain bandwidth spectrums in SA was highlighted at yesterday's AMC's Broadband Strategies for the Mobile Market conference, held in Johannesburg.

South Africa’s communications regulator has been rocked by allegations that councillors regularly violate the Icasa Act by participating in activities of stakeholders in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.

The Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) Amendment Act has
been signed into law by president Thabo Mbeki, but like the closely-related
Electronic Communications (EC) Act, no effective date has set down.
According to the Government Gazette, the ICASA Amendment Act, Act number 3 of 2006, was signed by the president on 15 June and gazetted on the 22 June.

[Johannesburg, 23 June 2006] - The investigation into Telkom's proposed acquisition of Business Connexion (BCX) could be a lengthy one, the Competition Commission says.
Lizèl Blignaut, the Competition Commission's divisional manager of mergers and acquisitions, says the deal was filed with the authority last Thursday.
“We have started our investigation, but it's still at a very early stage,” she says.
