Vodacom, the largest provider of cellphone services to South Africans, boosted CEO Pieter Uys's pay 23 percent after the company almost doubled profit in the year through March. Uys received a total cash package of R13.2m, compared with the R10.7m he was paid in the year through March 2010, according to the company's annual report, published on Friday on its website. odacom may be forced by the National Consumer Commission to refund its customers for losses suffered because of the operators network failure on Thursday, which left many clients unable to make and receive calls for most of the day. SA's largest mobile operator, Vodacom, is still investigating the cause of last Thursday's widespread network failure. Cell C has introduced a Recharge Rewards initiative for prepaid subscribers. According to a statement, customers who make R50 worth of recharges in a week will receive an extra 500MB data, 50 bonus SMSes and 50 Cell C to Cell C minutes. The extra rewards will expire after a calendar week and will be capped at 1 000MB of data and 100 free minutes. Chief executive of mobile operator Vodacom (VOD) Pieter Uys said on Friday that the group had been a victim of sabotage on its fibre networks.
