Comcast is testing a new method of managing network traffic that would target heavy users instead of the applications favored by bandwidth hogs. Comcast claims only a handful of users are clogging its broadband network and slowing it down for the vast majority of users.

Verizon FiOS TV customers will get even more great programming this summer as Verizon adds more than 60 new channels to the lineup, including high-definition (HD), sports and multicultural content. Verizon plans to expand its lineup to offer by the end of the year up to 150 HD channels, which will include all available major HD programming. Other Verizon HD choices include hundreds of video-on-demand (VOD) titles per month, with 1,000 HD VOD titles by the end of the year.

AT&T has upgraded its 3G data network, and the new speeds are something to behold. With the new upgrade, expected to be complete across the 3G network by the end of June, users of the LaptopConnect wireless Internet service will see speeds of up to 1.7Mbps, a 20% increase over the former downlink speed.

Comcast, under fire for the way it treats subscriber Internet traffic, will start tests this week to see if it can avoid traffic jams by targeting neighborhood bandwidth hogs rather than file-sharing programs.
The tests will be conducted in Chambersburg, Pa., and Warrenton, Va., starting Thursday, and later this summer in Colorado Springs, a Comcast spokesman said Tuesday.

The communications retailer Carphone Warehouse is stepping up its offensive on the wireless communications market tomorrow by launching an expanded free laptop with broadband offer.

The Polish alternative telco Inotel has launched what is understood to be the country’s first IPTV service offering HD channels.
According to a local report, it is available in Poznan and other parts of Western Poland (Wielkopolska region), reaching some 40,000 homes but with the number expected to rise to 100,000 by the end of the year.
