Virgin Media believes it is being shafted by comparison sites offering ISP speed checks, and has called on them to improve their techniques ahead of the launch of its 50Mbit/s upgrade.
Switching sites are becoming an increasingly powerful force in the near-saturated broadband market. uSwitch recently said the tightening of household belts during the ongoing economic turmoil had prompted more internet users to change their ISP.

The Government is not involved in “mindless privatisation of strategic parastatals.”
Internal security assistant minister Simeon Lesirma said in Parliament on Wednesday that the Government off loaded its shares in Safaricom and in Telekom Kenya to local and foreign investors in line with the law.

India is the seventh largest spam sender in the world, according to Trend Micro, a global leader in Internet content security. India is the leader among Asian countries in spam, accounting for more than 4 per cent of the total global spam.

A federal judge has ordered an Arizona couple to pay more than $236 million for sending millions of spam messages to a small Iowa ISP.
Henry Perez and his wife Suzanne Bartok were ordered to pay the damages -- amounting to $10 per bulk e-mail -- following a four-year court case in which the judge found that they had bombarded CIS Internet Services of Clinton, Iowa, over a four-month period in 2003.

The Kenyan government has announced plans to scrap a law which had required foreign firms to have local partners if investing in the telecoms industry. Under the current system, any investor has to allocate at least twenty percent of the company to a local partner, which has caused legal problems in the past.

Korea Telecom (KT) has signed a US$40million deal with the Rwanda government to implement a national backbone project expected to connect the entire country on a fiber optic network.
When complete, a national backbone will enable Rwandans to use e-applications and for the government to execute e-services and business and information exchange that need high speed broadband Internet.

MTN usage has increased by 70% over the past two months, Erik van Veen, the chief commercial officer, has said. Van Veen said the rise was due to the MTN Zone tariff system launched over two months back.
“MTN Zone subscribers have now hit over two million, which represents 60% of the MTN customer base.
“There has also been a 70% increase in call usage since its introduction.”
