225,000 Tervaytes travel over mobile networks monthly

About 225,000 terabytes of data is pulsing across mobile networks globally each month, according to new figures from Ericsson. The networking vendor said mobile data was growing exponentially despite mobile broadband accounting "for only 10 percent of total mobile subscriptions". Google and Verizon held a press conference today to address concerns that it is conspiring to undermine net neutrality. Regulators have put net neutrality discussions on ice after reports surfaced that two key participants had potentially reached a deal on the side. The closed-door negotiations on how to rule the web going forward involved phone, cable and internet companies, but it is believed that Verizon and Google may have come to a separate agreement. Though Comcast showed improvement in both sales and subscribers, costs related to its pending buyout of NBC Universal took a bite out of earnings for the second quarter. Demon Internet has introduced a fair use policy for its small business broadband packages, putting a cap on the previously unlimited data it offered on certain products. Regulator says UK misled on broadband speeds

Britons are not getting the broadband services they are being sold, research by the regulator Ofcom suggests. Its analysis of broadband speeds in the UK shows that, for some services, 97 percent of consumers do not get the advertised speed. It also shows a growing gap between the claims ISPs make for broadband and the speed being delivered. Telstra plans to cut about 30 executives and 300 senior and middle managers from its ranks "in the near future", according to reports.
