3G Data in South Africa is becoming cheaper every few months, and the country has some of the cheapest 3G data prices in the world. Even Cell C is currently investing R5 billion in their own 3G data network after having offered only GPRS/EDGE since they started up a few years ago. While 3G speeds are faster than Telkom's fastest ADSL service, the bandwidth prices are still far higher than what you can get for your ADSL connection.
It is estimated there are over 1 million active 3G connections in South Africa, and this is increasing steadily every day as providers and retailers bundle 3G data contracts with laptop and netbook deals.
